Our Commitment to Health Equity

The start of each new year brings an opportunity to make meaningful commitments and address challenges with fresh energy and intention.

This year, with increasing evidence and awareness of the unacceptable and heartbreaking inequity in our healthcare system, we are driven to respond. These disparities are not just the result of inadequate access and coverage. Bias and structural racism have contributed to deep mistrust.

Addressing inequity and mistrust requires all stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem to take action, and the life sciences industry has an important role to play. While 2023 opened up meaningful conversations, health equity is not yet embedded in business plans, and the voice of diverse communities in our systems and processes remains limited.

We must collectively hold ourselves accountable for driving change. At Luminous we asked ourselves ‘what is our role?’ and decided on the following commitment:

Beginning January 2024, all client engagements will incorporate health equity considerations. Any recommendations made will serve to enhance the work we do and support our clients’ ambitions.

To fulfill our commitment, we have partnered with Global Equity Learning who bring practical, academic, and government experience in change processes, practices, and policies that help to build equitable experiences and belonging for all.

Together, we are creating a goal and definition of health equity for the life sciences industry, which we will share in early 2024. We welcome feedback and input from across the industry.

Our collaboration with Global Equity Learning includes additional service offerings such as connecting health equity goals to business strategy, building dashboards that integrate impact metrics, conducting assessments that account for the social determinants of health, generating actionable insights, and embedding cultural competencies in processes and practices.  Please contact us at healthequity@luminouseffect.com to learn more.

We look forward to working together to achieve more equitable and successful outcomes for all - patients, business, and society.

Wishing you a bright new year!
